Welcome back to my latest series, #WellnessWednesday in the new Wellness & Health category, where I highlight how I celebrate my personal self-care in everyday life. For today’s #WellnessWednesday post, I want to share my wellness routine and how my self-care routine looks like.
For me wellness means a full holistic care with focus on myself physically, emotionally, and spiritually. Over the past few years, I found out what works for me, and try to adjust the wellness routines depending on season, weather and how I feel.
Finding balance in life is very important, as well as finding time for things that bring me joy. That’s how my wellbeing reflects on others, and makes me overall consistent and positive. My number one rule is 80/20, which means making 80% healthy choices and 20% indulgent choices. This is how I keep myself sane and not deprived. Remember? Balance is the key to everything in life.
It takes a lot of work and self-discipline to practice physical fitness, to maintain holistic care, take time to relax, to have emotional balance, and reduce stress in order to have quality of life and mental health. We need to believe that our mental, physical health are connected with our overall wellness and appearance.
My wellness motto: Take care of your mind with positive thoughts and self-love, take care of your body with essential nutrients that needs to function on the multiple life dimensions, and take care of your skin with products that helps it to clean, look glowing and healthy.
How does my self-care day look like?
Warm Lemon Water
Right after I get up, I drink a warm lemon water to detoxify my body. The pectin from the lemon aids in digestion, flushing toxins and energizing your digestive tract.
Celery Juice
I drink two glasses of cold-pressed celery juice every morning on an empty stomach. Celery is great to improve digestion, contains powerful anti-oxidants, is anti-inflammatory, supports kidney function, and is highly nutritious.
Meditation & Hot Yoga
Regular meditation and hot yoga, helps me stay focused, calm and flexible. During the week, I try to balance with intense workouts like Inferno Hot Pilates so that I have an overall physical and mental wellness.
Workout routine
Exercising regularly is very important. When I am not travelling a lot, I exercise three to four times per week at a minimum, combining it with hot yoga and Pilates. I love the sweat app to track everything and have a workout plan.
Deep Tissue Massage Roller Glove
I love to use a massage glove each morning before showering. It improves lymphatic drainage, as well as it helps to stretch the skin tissue. After I shower, I apply a combination of Caudalie Divine Oi and the Kiehl’s Superbly Restorative Body Lotion (or the Basis pH Lotion) all over. It’s important to add an extra layer of oil on belly, breasts, and hips. Those areas need a little more nourishment and hydration, since they are more dry and prone to stretch marks. It’s always good to repeat it again in the evening after bath or shower.
Regular Skincare Routine
In the morning, I use a gentle cleanser that doesn’t dry or strip the skin of its natural oils. After cleansing, I use a serum, then a few drops of facial oil. Next, I use my favorite jade face-roller to decrease puffiness, stimulate collagen, tighten pores and potentially improve inflammatory skin conditions. After the roller I use a light eye cream and then I apply the SPF moisturizer all over my face, neck, and décolletage.
Masks in the evening
I’m obsessed with homemade turmeric brightening and exfoliating mask and use it three to four times a week as a facial scrub and moisturizing mask. A perfect organic food for my skin, that reduces inflammation, brightens, deeply cleanses and nourishes the skin. I love to use in the evening, while I am drinking my night tea and read a book before bed.
In the evenings, I double cleanse using the Egg White Perfect Pore Cleansing Oil by Skin Food — it’s very light, soothing on the skin and also great to gently remove makeup. After I use a water based cleanser to wash the oil and makeup off. I love to use the konjac sponge to while I double cleanse. I swap out the Caudalie Beauty Elixir, which is plant-based mist boosts radiance, tightens pores and smoothes the complexion. Then follow with the night-time skin-care routine: eye cream, face oil and a hydrating night cream.
Sometimes I love to apply a Korean beauty sheet mask. Or something that is richer and has a multitasking purpose, such as a overnight face mask that is more hydrating and restorative than a regular night cream.
Facial Massages
Another step to my morning and evening beauty routine is a gua sha rose quartz facial sculptor, a jade or rose quartz roller, and an advanced facial roller. All these tools were used as a healing technique all over Asia for more than a century.
The gua sha stone is used to massage your face and neck to stimulate circulation and reduce puffiness while lifting, toning, and sculpting your face. It’s great to use it daily for a five-minute facial massage with a face oil or moisturizer, as it also helps it absorb into the skin.
Oil Pulling
I started coconut oil pulling four years ago, and I love the benefits of it. Oil pulling is an oral health routine that involves swishing oil around in the mouth in a similar way to mouthwash, but for a much more extended period. Coconut oil has several health benefits, including reducing inflammation and fighting harmful bacteria.
Just swishing a tablespoon of coconut oil in the mouth for 15–20 minutes to reduce harmful bacteria in the mouth and on the teeth.
Me Time
Never forget to take a little time each day for yourself. For me personally, it’s important even if I take 15 minutes to do a meditation, or read a nice inspiring book. A time alone, without my phone and anyone around, makes me feel much more balanced in my private and professional life.
Get 8 hours of sleep
Sleep is so important for our overall health and wellness. A good sleep helps better productivity and concentration, lowers weight gain risk, better calorie regulation, better athletic performance, lowers risk of heart disease, improves emotional and social intelligence, prevents depression, lowers inflammation, strengthens the immune system, the list is almost endless.
I like to read, to meditate, turn off my phone, mist my bedroom and pillow with a calming aroma, and have 8 hours of sleep.
