While we are currently physically distancing and staying at home, I am not just decluttering my closet but also my travel photos from past years. Since we cannot travel or go on vacation yet—this post might not be relevant at the moment, but sooner or later we will travel and visit all our favorite places.
Miami is not just about cocktails, flashy cars, neon bikinis, but this city has so much more to offer. The US’s warmest city in winter, Miami is a destination for millions of tourists. From party to art lovers—this city has a lot to offer. As a huge fan of Miami’s art deco architecture, Wynwood Art District and the great restaurants, today I want to share my favorite places to see, as well as where to eat and drink in Miami.
WHAT TO SEE
If you are planning to visit Miami for the first time, I would recommend you to stay in South Beach. Even if you choose to spend more time on the beach, you really need to fully experience this vibrant city. From the high end designer shops to every type of small boutiques, art deco architecture to contemporary museums, Miami has a lot to offer.
Art Deco Tour
From Ocean Drive to the heart of South Beach’s Art Deco District, is where the art deco architecture lovers can spend few hours learning about the culture and to see the iconic, colorful buildings of Miami.
South Beach
Miami visit is nothing without spending some time at gorgeous beachfront, clear blue water and stripped lounge chairs. South Beach is a public beach that’s free and open to everyone. Warning! It gets really hot there. Pack your favorite beachwear.
Wynwood District
Walls in Wynwood are known as Miami’s most Instagrammed spots. The outdoor “gallery” is a collection of artwork by graffiti artists and muralists. The murals usually change very often, and one of the most iconic works in Wynwood is by Shepard Fairey.
Little Havana
For truly local experience go to Little Havana. This is the heart of Miami’s Cuban population, the area includes Calle Ocho (SW 8th Street), famous for Domino Park, strong café Cubano, and delicious ice-cream.
Design District
The giant 18-block neighborhood is home to more than 150 high-end boutiques, design showrooms, art galleries, restaurants, and bars. Don’t miss the impressive public art, including works by Buckminster Fuller and Zaha Hadid.
Vizcaya Museum and Gardens
Venice eleganza meets tropical Miami vibes. In the 1910s, noted industrialist James Deering brought a taste of Europe to South Florida when he commissioned the construction of Vizcaya Museum and Gardens, modeled on a centuries-old Italian villa, as his winter home in Miami. There are lot of stunning corners, beautifully original decorated rooms, gorgeous antique furniture, and endless beautiful gardens. Plan your visit accordingly, so that you don’t miss anything.
Faena Forum
A new arts center in the six-block multi-use Faena district from Argentinian developer Alan Faena, Faena Forum will open in April 2016 in a Rem Koolhaas-designed building. Sister to the Feana Arts Center Buenos Aires—a space known for site-specific installations—Faena Forum has large flexible spaces to host performances and events as well as art exhibitions.
The Webster
No visit to Miami would be complete without a visit to the Webster. From The Row to Saint Laurent, Proenza Schouler and Lanvin, the mega luxury multi-brand fashion house is Miami’s most famous boutique.
