Have you ever heard about hyperhidrosis? Today I want to explain my story. Excessive underarm sweating always affected my life, until I decided to microwave my underarms two years ago. I grew up in South East Europe, more precisely in Kosovo, where temperatures would reach 45 degrees from June to September. I always felt embarrassed to wear something colorful that showed the wet marks under my arms. Sometimes even in the coldest days of winter in Vienna, I’d have wet marks under my arms due to stress or being nervous.
One day I began researching sweaty pit solutions and came across special deodorants or botox injections, something that was always a no-go for me. Botox injections have the worst side effects like – joint pain or even vision problems, plus it’s only for half of the year, or even less – so it was definitely not a solution for me. Sweating is the body’s way of regulating heat, cooling us down, and expunging toxins, but for many people, sweating doesn’t only happen when it’s warm outside, so this condition is called hyperhidrosis.
What is miraDry?
miraDry is the only FDA-cleared treatment that can significantly reduce underarm sweating. The procedure addresses all kind of sweating from moderate to severe. It is the only one non-surgical method against underarm sweating that at the same time, offers a solution for hyperhidrosis.
How does the treatment with miraDry work?
The procedure was performed at the physician’s office where my underarms got sanitized. After the local anesthesia was administered – I only felt the first needles on each side, just like an acupuncture treatment, the skin was marked with a temporary tattoo used to help guiding the specialist. After the area became numb, I felt absolutely nothing during the miraDry treatment itself. However, once the anesthetic effect was off, I felt pain. Ice bags, as well as ibuprofene tabs were recommended for the first 24h after the treatment to feel comfortable. Most patients are able to return to normal activities or work right after the procedure, but for me it took few days to get back to work and workout.
Which are the side effects of miraDry?
Common and minor side effects of miraDry include underarm swelling, redness, blue spots, sensitivity to pressure and tenderness lasting for few days. Numbness and tingling can occur in the upper arm or armpit and may last for about 5 weeks. Positive side effects of the treatment: the scent glands are destroyed as well. Thus, the unpleasant underarm odor significantly disappears as well.
Is the treatment safe?
The miraDry treatment has an excellent safety record. Already more than 150,000 treatments have been performed worldwide. miraDry is also the only FDA-cleared treatment that can significantly reduce underarm sweat in a single session.
How much does the treatment cost?

Personal Note
It’s been two years since I had my miraDry® treatment at Dr. med. Klaus Überreiter – Park Klinik Birkenwerder in Berlin, so my sweating has been 70% reduced but not gone away completely. Which means, I only feel a little bit of wetness on really hot days, and don’t even need deodorant but I still wear it to smell nice. Even tough, a second miraDry treatment could deliver optimal results, I’ve decided not go though the process again. Why? Because I’m no longer an excessive sweater, and I already feel more confident wearing tops that I’ve hidden in my closet for years.
My advice to anyone considering miraDry is that it’s definitely worth it. Although it’s not completely gone for me, but I’m no longer an excessive sweater anymore. As well as, I already feel more confident wearing tops that I couldn’t wear for years. So if you decide to go for it, give your body time to heal, because it’s not to-go-out procedure, but after few weeks you’ll love your armpits.
