HOW TO HELP YOUR LOCALS DURING THE PANDEMIC OUTBREAK?

Who would have thought that 2020 will start with a pandemic outbreak? No one (except those who have created it). We are living in extraordinary times, where anxiety and panic spreads faster than the virus. Everyone worries about their parents, grandparents, kids, jobs and their finances.

But how can you lend a hand for those who are vulnerable, the elderly who live alone and cannot go out to do their groceries? How can you help refugee families that have no income and cannot afford shelter and food? How can you help your local businesses to survive the economic crisis during and after the pandemic? I hope you wondered the same thing, therefore I am sharing this post and few things we can all do to support people in need and our local communities during these uncertain times.

1. BE THE NEIGHBOR YOU’D WANT TO HAVE

In crisis humanity has a way to unite, give others a little faith and love. There are many ways we can show our neighbor kindness, especially for those at risk.

Let your family members, friends and elderly neighbors that you are ready to help them. Call, check in, leave a not at doorstep and see if they need help getting groceries or other supplies, or simply medication pick up from the pharmacy or doctor’s office.

2. BE AWARE OF HOW YOU’RE SHOPPING

There’s nothing quite like the behavior of panicky humans, when something unexpected happens. That’s why it’s very important to be conscious of how much you’re buying and where. If you are able to go to the grocery store and aren’t ‘in-risk’, visit your local stores and markets but at less crowded hours.

Try to avoid any food that causes inflammation, such as processed meat, dairy, fastfoods, gluten, syrup and soft drinks. Instead try to buy local food and vegetables for boosting your immune system and stay healthy during covid-19 SARS-CoV-2 period.

3. SUPPORT YOUR LOCAL BUSINESSES

You can support your favorite local businesses like yoga studios, gyms, salons, restaurants, or other small businesses by ordering online courses, food, or buying gift cards. This is an idea how to keep revenue coming in for them, that you can use immediately or later on.

Therefore, Laura and I have created #TogetherVienna to support Vienna local businesses and to get through these hard times.

4. DONATE WHERE IS THE MOST NEEDED

During this outbreak, many at-risk communities will be affected deeply. Not just mentally and physically, but also financially. Donate to charities that organize food banks and homeless shelters.

Easiest ways to find out about the organizations is via local shelters also national food bank directory. You can also donate blood, as it’s much needed and hospitals have already low supply of blood donations during this time.
