Style is knowing who you are, how to combine old with new pieces and still look like you came straight out of a fashion magazine. I discovered my love for vintage clothing when I was in Paris in 2005. While I was walking down the Rue des Tournelles, at the 3rd arrondissement of Paris – accidentally I walked into a lovely vintage boutique. They had a range of high-end brands from Chanel to Pucci, Chloe to McQueen etc.
There I found the most amazing vintage Dior dress and some wonderful vintage jewellery. From that day on, my passion for vintage clothing and antiques grew rapidly, so that I started collecting unique pieces that took my heart in glance. Hunting for vintage pieces can be overwhelming, but if you have no expectations you will always find something appealing to your style. Just like Paris, Vienna is also known for its sizable vintage boutiques, filled with 50s and 60s glam pieces as well as 70s bourgeois-bohème clothes — and sometimes I try to find that one special item to bring home. Below I have listed my favorite vintage stores in Vienna.
How to style vintage with new pieces?
Less is more: I would suggest mix-n-matching vintage and new separates is probably the easiest way of beginning to work vintage into your wardrobe. For this article I choose one of my favorite houndstooth pattern (also called as Le pied-de-poule or pepito).
Like so many classic patterns, the houndstooth pattern was first created in Scotland. Its earliest appearance dates back to the 1800s. Traditionally making use of dark and light alternating ‘checks,’ the pattern quickly followed suit with other historical Scottish fabrics to become a staple pattern in wool suiting and outerwear. This fabric with a small, elegant design – while being traditional, its fine houndstooth pattern can add a modern, stylish accent to any outfit. It’s clean, simple, elegant, sophisticated and timeless.
First Look
Here I am wearing a vintage Guy Laroche blazer, made in Paris of a luxurious blend of wool and cashmere with a ‘pied de poule‘ pattern. I love the 3/4-sleeve cut and the gorgeous gold buttons. I pared this blazer with white culottes and black silk top, with black accessories and retro-look sunglasses.

Second Look
This look is almost my everyday look. My obsession for blazer and jeans continues since a decade now and recently I am into kickflare high ankle jeans. Combined with the Akris single front button vintage blazer, made in St. Gallen of a luxurious blend of wool and silk with a black velvet collar. Styled it with a belt to give the work-to-play outfit an unexpected finish.

Third Look
Thanks to tights, in Winter and also in Spring you can still wear mini skirts. This Escada mini skirt by Margaretha Ley Green is so beautiful that I knew immediately it will be mine when I spotted it in ‘Second Time Around’ vintage boutique, at Vienna’s 9th district. Paired with a black turtleneck and Chanel pearls, to create that classic Parisian look.
