I love pampering myself and sometimes I invest in a good full-body massage or a nice facial treatment. But when it comes to weekly skin and hair treatments, I prefer to make my own favorite homemade masks, or use a organic and natural mask to go. So why waste money on expensive creams when you can treat yourself with a great homemade facial mask with yoghurt, whole-egg and avocado from your own fridge?

Turmeric Face Mask for Glowing Skin

Did you know that turmeric is one of the most healthy spices that makes your skin glow, heals acne, eczema, reduces inflammation, redness, dark circles, age spots and acne scars? Turmeric beauty masks have been used across Asia for centuries. In Chinese and Indian traditions, this spice is a important element of the Ayurvedic medical system, however in south Asia turmeric is used as integral part of the bride’s wedding preparations, making her look spotless and glowing on her big day. This amazing spice can benefit the body, both inside and out and promotes skin healing. Due to antioxidant it helps softening lines and wrinkles!

Here’s a recipe for a homemade turmeric facial mask:

There are many variations for the recipe, but below you will find the basic recipe. Some add little bit of lemon juice which helps to lighten the skin, or milk instead of yoghurt. However these are the ingredients I use for my mask:

  • 1 teaspoon of turmeric (pure and organic turmeric powder)
  • 1 teaspoon coconut flour (chick pea flour optional)
  • 1 teaspoon of raw organic honey
  • 1 teaspoon of yoghurt (for oily skin)

Optional ingredients to add: you can add to the above mixture 1 tsp. of lemon juice (helps lighten the skin and good for oily skin) and/or a few drops of tea tree essential oil if you suffer from acne, or olive, coconut or almond oil (for dry skin).

The preparation

Wash your face with running water and remove all makeup. Wear a T-shirt you are not too attached to, in case it gets stained.

Application of the Turmeric Face Mask

Apply the mask evenly all over your face. A spot you don’t want to miss is under the eyes, as turmeric’s anti-inflammatory properties help reduce the dark circles. If you have any mask leftover, you can save it in the fridge for a few days and use it the next time. Let the mask dry on your face for about 20 minutes and then washing it off with cool water and dry your face gently. Repeat the mask over the course of a few days. You can do it every few weeks, depending on your needs and complexion.

Turmeric is a good antioxidant, and an anti-inflammatory and anti-bacterial agent. Honey is also an anti-bacterial and it moisturizes the skin well. Together, these ingredients make wonders for your skin!

Argan Avocado Oil Hair Mask

If your hair feels dry, frizzy, skip the unnecessary expensive hair oils you buy in any stores, because you can make your own soothing remedy with foods from your kitchen. Avocado oil (or olive oil) and avocados help moisturize your hair and restore its lustrous shine. When your mane needs deep conditioning, whip oil and avocado together with other natural ingredients to make a hydrating hair mask. Eggs are quite powerful ingredient for hair, and a mixture of avocado and argan oil makes your hair shine like a diamond. For the homemade hair masks, many people use only egg yolks but if you’re unsure which part of the egg you should be using; egg whites or egg yolk for your hair and scalp, they’re both beneficial depending on what you want to cure.

Egg whites & yolks can help your hair with:

  • Hair Loss
  • Hair Growth
  • Hair Thickness
  • Dandruff

Egg yolks contain vitamin A, B, D & E while most of an eggs protein is found in the white along with some bacteria-eating enzymes.

Mask ingrediens:

  • Argan oil (if you don’t have argan, you can use virgin olive oil instead)
  • Two whole eggs (because my hair is long. If you have short hair use only one egg)
  • Half of avocado

The same fats and oils in avocado that make them good for your body, also makes it a great option for helping to repair dry, brittle or damaged hair. Argan oil is also extremely hydrating, and it helps protect your hair from damage and an awesome thing if you use a lot of heat on your hair usually.

What is Argan oil?

Argan oil sometimes known as moroccan oil is a product of the Moroccan argan tree. It is extracted from the kernels of the argan tree to be used as a moisturizer, conditioner and softener for skin and hair. Often dubbed ‘liquid gold’ for its amazing qualities, it contains large amounts of beneficial nutrients including vitamin E and fatty acids, which have many positive effects when applied correctly. It’s proven results are the reason people are using argan oil for hair and all areas of the body.

This mask is is extremely beneficial for hair and scalp, it promotes healthy hair growth as it contains antioxidants, which help boost cells and encourage them to produce healthy hair – it has even been used for hair regrowth.
